Since 1998, Safety Smarts has been Alberta’s longest-running rural school farm safety program, trusted by teachers, parents, and communities to keep kids safe where they live, learn, and play.
2024–2025 Impact Highlights:

1,754 classroom presentations delivered between October 2024 and June 2025

37,118 rural elementary students reached across 405 schools in Alberta
-
98% of teachers reported students were engaged

99% found the content relevant and informative

98% want Safety Smarts back again next year
What students learn (K–6):
-
Kindergarten: “One Seat, One Rider” — learning why every rider needs their own seat and seatbelt.

Grade 1: “To Stay Safe, Play Safe” — avoiding bystander run-overs by playing in safe areas.

Grade 2: “Boats Float – I Don’t” — understanding drowning hazards around water, ice, and grain.

Grade 3: “Hear, Hear – Listen Up” — protecting hearing from loud machinery and music.

Grade 4: “It Can Happen to Me” — personal responsibility for making safe choices.

Grade 5: “Get a Grip – Safety’s In My Hands” — preventing riding-related falls and collisions.

Grade 6: “Bigger, Faster…But I’m Smarter” — ATV, snowmobile, and horse riding risks, with concussion simulation goggles.
Delivered by farmers, for farm kids:
