Heartland Training & Support Hub is currently seeking two Safety Smarts Instructors to join our team for the upcoming school year.

About Us

Heartland Training & Support Hub (formerly the Farm Safety Centre) has been delivering rural safety education across Alberta since 1990. Our mission is to support the health, well-being, and safety of rural communities through practical, engaging education programs.


Position Overview

We are looking for motivated, disciplined individuals with a strong agricultural background and experience working with children.

As a Safety Smarts Instructor, you will deliver engaging, age-appropriate farm safety presentations to rural elementary students within your assigned region.

This is a flexible, independent contractor role, with work primarily occurring during school hours (8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday) from September through June.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver farm safety presentations to elementary students in rural schools
  • Schedule and book presentations directly with schools and teachers
  • Prepare and organize materials for each presentation
  • Maintain accurate records in Salesforce (contacts, logs, mileage, etc.)
  • Submit invoices, receipts, and reporting in a timely manner
  • Travel within your region (some overnight stays may be required)

Qualifications

  • Agricultural Background: Strong understanding of farming or ranching operations
  • Cultural Awareness: Familiarity with Hutterite communities is an asset
  • Teaching Ability: Comfortable engaging and presenting to elementary-aged children
  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency with Zoom, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (Salesforce is an asset)
  • Transportation: Reliable vehicle for regional travel
  • Organization: Strong time management and ability to work independently
  • Work Structure: Comfortable working as an independent contractor

Compensation

  • $50.00 to $100.00 per presentation (based on length and format)
  • Travel time and mileage reimbursed where applicable

Additional Requirements

  • Reliable internet access
  • Availability during the school year (September to June)
  • No work required during July and August
